Do you need support when you get your wisdom teeth removed?
Q: I am getting my wisdom teeth removed next month but my family will be out of town and I’ll be all alone. Is it ok to drive home myself and stay alone the night after surgery or should I have someone there in case there is any emergency?
A: I just had my wisdom teeth removed last week and you absolutely have to have somebody to care for you for the first 24 hours. My grandma went with me and drove me there (the oral surgeon gave me a pill to make me loopy before I got there) and drove me home (because I was still recovering from the anesthesia) and watch me. All I did was sleep it off and really didn’t need any help. Just make sure you have a ride and they really don’t have to stick around, just make sure you’re propped up when your sleeping.PS To the surgeon, mine was done under general anesthesia. It all depends on if they are pulling or cutting them out.
If you have your wisdom teeth removed do you need to remove the opposite ones above them as well?
Q: I have to have my two lower wisdom teeth removed. The dentist says I must remove the two opposite upper teeth as well as they will continue to grow now that they have nothing to stop them below. I know of people who have wisdom teeth removed and none of them have had the teeth above taken out as well.
A: It is recommended that the opposing wisdom teeth are taken out as well. there are a couple reasons why. The first being that if you take out say, the two on top, the two on the bottom become useless as they have nothing above them to meet with, so they have no function. Second, if you take out let’s say the two wisdom teeth on the bottom, the opposing teeth on top will seek out a surface to meet. They will start to drop down. This will lead to root structure becoming exposed, which can be very painful. Also, if they start to drop, they will not stop until they meet something, this may cause you to start biting the gum tissue where the wisdom teeth were removed on the bottom. this can be very painful. good luck
