What is the difference between viral and bacterial pink eye?
Q: Thanks to all who answer! :-]
A: With viral conjunctivitis (pink eye) medications can be prescribed that will ease the discomfort, and there are also antiviral medications ($$$$$$) for eyes, but these are usually used to treat herpes type infections. Viral conjunctivitis will usually get better without treatment, but antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent secondary bacterial infections. With bacterial conjunctivitis, there are antibiotics that can be prescribed, usually erythromycin , or a broad spectrum tetracycline ophthalmic ointment.Conjunctivitis is extremely contagious. Towels, washcloths, etc. MUST not be shared with affected person. Persons with active contagious pink eye infections should not go to school/work until infection is under control to avoid spreading to others. For comfort, darker rooms and warm wet washcloths offer some relief.

Nothing has worked, only made it worse. Id really appreciate some really good advice. Thankshe already went to the doctors and got the drops, they only make it worse
A: Go to the store and buy some chamomile tea (in the bags). Make a cup of tea just like you were going to drink it…(boil a cup of water then put 2 tea bags in the cup and put a lid on it so it gets nice and thick about 5 min.) then wait until it cools down enough that you can touch it and soak two cotton balls in it, one for each eye and then wipe his eyes with them and squeeze a little of the tea in each eye. It worked for my kids before. Good luck.
