Is it normal for your leg to cramp up during the day?
Q: im 13 and my leg cramps up alot. Every time i sit down for a while and get up, my legs cramp up and tingle to the point where i have to fall down. It happens at least once a day and it feels like my leg just gives out. It only lasts for a few seconds but i cant deal with it in school. Is this a problem? should i see a doctor?
A: Yeah it’s normal – if you’re sitting down sometimes the leg starts to feel tense because of no movement, or they could even be good old “growing pains”.I don’t think it’s really anything to worry about, but if you are you can see your doc.
What is the best thing to do to work out a sudden onset leg cramp?
Q: Had a few severe leg crampings over the past month. Felt like a vertical pull and then a twisting of the calf muscle in back of the leg….I stretched it out and then applied heat with a microwaveable gel pack…did soothe/calm the contraction but today it is so sore….any suggestions to avoid this from happening or other things to do when this happens? Thanks …SammyI am now on my feet a lot more due to the start of school after 3+ mos off. I had been trying to do more walking in August in anticipation of the school year because this is a “ritual of cramps” that happen each year….This year is just worse…I do try to drink more liquids, added calcium and potassium to my diet with OJ or bananas….Lucky for me …I don’t SMOKE…yuckkk! I am a biologist and figured out what I do helps the aftermath but was wondering if others had any other remedies for their leg twists!!!…..Blood chemistry is fine….he suggested what I am doing….routine change is a factor…..just wondering if someone else experiences this and if they have better results with a tried and true method to get rid of them and the aftermath faster….
A: Sometimes adding a banana to your diet isn’t enough. Go to your doctor he can take blood to see if you have low potassium. There are pills you an take if your potassium is to low.
Ever get awakened out of your sleep by a leg cramp?
Q: Very uncomfortable..just got to ride it out.
A: Yes, if I exercise really hard or do something really physical the day before I get them that night. It helps if you put your leg straight out, then pull your toes up. Sounds crazy but helps.
