Where did the first lice come from and how did it reproduce?
Q: I’m pretty clear on how they spread, their life cycles, how they feed and the hundreds of eggs that an Adult Lice (Head louse) can reproduce. I’ve pretty much become a Lice expert since I have had to deal with them and the children in my family. What I am most curious in knowing is how did the first lice get here? How did they evolve in so many if they can’t live more than 48 hours without a host to feed on. It takes one to start it, but what if the first one was not a female and even if it was then how? This has been on the back of my mind for ages, I really hope someone can clear the water, Many thanks!!

How can you Prevent Lice?
Q: I’m going to a mission trip soon and I don’t want the riskof getting head lice.I have heard that one can dye their hair and so the lice will not like the scalp because of the chemicals and they won’t want to reproduce. Is there anything else besides the whole”don’t use other people’s combs, hats, scarfs etc. . .?”
A: Wash your hair!! Lice don’t like to live in clean environments! Wear it pulled back in a fairly tight ponytail. It’s more difficult for the little buggers to get to your scalp that way. Wear hats! See the last sentence for the reason. If you feel brave enough, cut your hair. The longer it is the more likely it will be to get them from surfaces!! You know the rest! If you should happen to get them, bring some RID as a precaution. Also, kerosene is a good lice killer if you don’t have the ability to take RID with you on the trip. Kerosene is available in a number of other countries as it’s a popular light source!
