what could happen if you dont do anything for a brown recluse bite?
Q: My mother has a bite that is about one inch in diameter. It is very red and has a big brown spot in the center. Exactally what should she do for it?
A: she should call her dr to make an appt w/in the next 24 hours to have it evaluated. if she can’t get in to see the dr, then she needs to go to the nearest urgent care/emergency room.brown recluse spiders are highly poisonous and untreated bites can cause severe infection and death to the tissue surrounding the bite (could result in long hospital stay and surgery).for now, wash it well with warm water and antibacterial soap. apply neosporin to help ward off infection and cover it w/a bandaid or gauze wrap. watch it closely over the next few hours for any changes. if the following occurs-then she needs to go immediately to the emergency room-increased redness or swelling to bite area-the bite becomes more painful, tender, or hot to touch-it begins to drain liquid of any kind-the black center becomes larger (could indicate death of skin tissue)-she has red lines extending from the bite to other areas of the body (indicates infection in the bloodstream)-she begins to run a fever of 100.5 or higher-she becomes confused, disoriented, or overly sleepy.hope this helps!!
How does a brown recluse spider bite progress?
Q: My sister was recently bit by a brown recluse spider in the middle of her back. She’s been in excruciating pain for several days even though she’s been treated. The bite area spread, turned red and swollen, and seems to be getting worse by the day. What can she expect to happen next? Will it get better?
A: Initially, the bite may feel like a pinprick or go unnoticed. Some may not be aware of the bite for 2 to 8 hours. Others feel a stinging sensation followed by intense pain. Infrequently, some victims experience general systemic reactions that may include restlessness, generalized itching, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or shock. A small white blister usually initially rises at the bite site surrounded by a swollen area. The affected area enlarges and becomes red, and the tissue is hard to the touch for some time. The lesion from a brown recluse spider bite is a dry, blue-gray or blue-white, irregular sinking patch with ragged edges and surrounding redness–termed the “red, white, and blue sign.” The lesion usually is 1½ inches by 2¾ inches or smaller. How long does nausea last from a brown recluse spider bite?
Q: I was bitten on Sept 28th by a brown recluse spider. I’ve been nauseated off and on ever since, every day (especially if i try to eat something). The bite is healing nicely, the redness is significantly less, and I’m taking antibiotics that i’m not allergic to. When will the nausea cease?
A: the nausea could be from the antibiotics. This doesn’t mean that you are allergic to them, antibiotics are notorious for being harsh on the stomach, try taking them with milk and a small snack.
