Can you get STDs from sitting on a public toilet seat?
Q: I know they’re disgusting, and I do whatever I can so I don’t have to use a public bathroom, but I’ve always wondered if it’s possible.

stds and toilet seats?
Q: My friend wants me to get a place with her and I’m thinking about it. Shes a great friend, a sweet girl, and we get along great, but the problem is she has self esteem issues and sleeps with a lot of guys to feel self worth. Theres been instances when shes had 2 one night stands in one night. With that kind of behavior she is putting herself at serious risk, having unprotected sex with people she barely knows. I’m worried about her, and ultimately myself. I know this sounds horrible but I’m not so sure that I want to be putting myself at risk by sharing a toilet with her, I’m just being brutally honest here. I’m thinking about my own health here. Should I be worried? I am over the whole party scene, and am in a serious relationship. I dont want to be putting myself or boyfriend at risk. Is it possible that I could pick up anything that she may have picked up?
A: Most STD’s cannot be contracted from toilet seats…It’s called a sexually transmitted disease for a reason…the only one I have heard of being transmitted in this way is pubic lice, or crabs, but I’m not sure of if that’s true
Can a fellow get stds from a dirty toilet seat?
Q:
A: The undamaged skin is an excellent barrier against germs of all kinds, and when you sit on a toilet only the skin of your legs really touches the toilet seat. Mucous membranes, like the inside of your mouth or the soft tissue of your genitals is far more receptive for germs but think of it, none of those parts really touch anything, do they? So don’t worry, the likelyhood of catching anything from a toilet seat is miniscule. The only exception I could really think of would be lice – since they are alive and wander you might catch that. Still and all, the likelyhood is exceedingly low. People tend to get their STD the time-honored way – through close contact with another human being.
