What questions should I ask my Consultant after 3 positive Lupus blood tests, fibro, laparoscopy and ttc?
Q: My 3rd lupus blood test has come back positive. I also have Fibromylagia. I have an appointment booked at the hospital (pre-laparoscopy appointment but we will discuss the blood test results too) but have not discussed it at all with the consultant yet. What is the best questions to ask my Consultant to make sure I am well informed? I have no idea what to ask, what i should know, anything like that. I’m trying for a baby – which he knows and i’ve had 10 m/c which is why they tested me for Lupus. I have spoken to the secretary and she read me the letter from hematology to my Gynae and they think its a ‘significant’ finding. I wont know more until my appointment but what should I be discussing?Serious answers only please. Thanks in advance.

Q:
A: Defining LupusLupus is a type of immune system disorder known as an autoimmune disease. In autoimmune diseases, the body harms its own healthy cells and tissues. This leads to inflammation and damage of various body tissues. Lupus can affect many parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels, and brain. Although people with the disease may have many different symptoms, some of the most common ones include extreme fatigue, painful or swollen joints (arthritis), unexplained fever, skin rashes, and kidney problems. Lupus is also known as a rheumatic disease. The rheumatic diseases are a group of disorders that cause aches, pain, and stiffness in the joints, muscles, and bones. At present, there is no cure for lupus. However, the symptoms of lupus can be controlled with appropriate treatment, and most people with the disease can lead active, healthy lives. Lupus is characterized by periods of illness, called flares, and periods of wellness, or remission. Understanding how to prevent flares and how to treat them when they do occur helps people with lupus maintain better health. Intense research is underway and scientists funded by the NIH are continuing to make great strides in understanding the disease, which ultimately may lead to a cure.
can you have lupus but not have the blood work to confirm that you do?
Q: After looking at all the symptoms for lupus I have about 7 of them but my blood test came back normal. Does that mean that I don’t have lupus for sure? Ever since the test came back normal my doctor doesn’t seem to think that it is lupus and thinks nothing is wrong but the symptoms seem to be coming back more frequent and more severe.
A: I have six monthly blood tests for Lupus as my father was diagnosed with Lupus with he was in his late 50’s and even then it took 18 months for the hospital to confirm it definately.Unfortunately there is no cure for Lupus.I like you as well as my brother have some the symptoms associated with Lupus; yet my tests always come back as OK.My father passed away earlier this year just before his 82nd Birthday from Advanced Prostrate Cancer plus he also previously had bowel cancer 5 years ago.He also tried alternative medical practioner which did have have pleasing effects on him.I too intend to do the same & have spoken in a social situation to an alternative practioner who left me such a positive outlook.Good Luck!
