Are nose bleeds normal with allergies?

yup, probably because of what you use to treat your allergies. The nasal passages get dried out and tend to bleed. Suggest that you add normal saline nose spray to your regimen of treatment to keep your nasal tissues hydrated.

What cause frequent nose bleeds in an otherwise perfectly healthy person?
Q: i get nose bleeds often, especailly in the winter. i have since i was a child, but they’re more frequent now. it’s not just a light nose bleed either. sometimes they last about a half an hour!! i’m a college freshman, and i was wondering if maybe stress could be a cause, or lack of sleep. and how do i get rid of them? my dorm room is very warm, and humid, compared to others and the air outside, so i don’t beleive that is it, i get plenty of water every day, and i have no allergies. i usually get them after sneezing a few times, or if my nose is stuffy when i wake up, or get bakc from walking to and from classes. is there a serious health problem here? i had blood work done in the summer before i came, so i think a disese would have shown up, but i’m worried. i get one at least once a week, sometimes more, and they alst a while too!! i’ve heard they can cauterize the inside of your nose, but i’d prefer not to do that. any other suggestions?
A: The most common causes are dryness (often caused by indoor heat in the winter) and nose picking. These two things work together–nose picking occurs more often when mucus in the nose is dry and crusty. Other, less common, causes include injuries, colds, allergies or cocaine use. Children may stick small objects up the nose. Older people may have atherosclerosis (“hardening of the arteries”), infections, high blood pressure and blood clotting disorders, or they may be taking drugs like aspirin that interfere with blood clotting. The cause of nosebleeds often can’t be determined. See your doctor if:The bleeding goes on for more than 15 minutes. The bleeding was caused by an injury. You get nosebleeds often. check out this website for more information http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/nosebleeds.htm#possible
Would Benedryl cause frequent nose bleeds?
Q: I started taking benedryl because I have allergy issues, and since I have taken it, my nose keeps bleeding! Not just a little either, like a whole lot! Mainly while I am sleeping. Doesn’t it dry up your sinus’ or something like that?side effect of being nerdy? I thought it was from all that Colombian bambam I partook in.
A: Benadryl can certainly dry up your mucous membranes, leaving them vulnerable. This is especially so in dry air seasons like winter or when a heater is on. Yoy have a few options.1. Switch to Claritin or Zyrtec – while everyone responds a little differently to meds, these are likely to be less drying.2. If that doesn’t work, you can always try old faithful – Chlor-Trimeton (chlorpheniramine maleate)3. Humidifying the room helps.4. Since you are already having bleeds, I suggest you go to the drugstore and find some saline spray. It will moisten the membranes. DO NOT get the hypertonic kind (the label will say).5. If you are adventuresome, you can try the nasal gels. They come in swabs (hard to use) or spray (burned my sinuses like a fire)6. As an alternate to gel, you can buy some Celluvisc eye drop and snort them. They are a very mild gel that is a great longer-term moistener. Good luck. 🙂
What allergy medicine could I take without getting nose bleeds?
Q: I have taken quite a few of the name brand allergy medicines including prescription and I get the same results. It completely dries out my nose and causes multiple nose bleeds. But if I don’t take medicine for my allergies I still have major problems all day.Any answers would be truly helpful. Thanks!Thank you for your answers so far.But the medicines that you have suggested I can’t take because they make my nose bleeds
A: This is a common side effect of many allergy medicenes. Have you tried using a saline mist nasal spray to moisturize the membranes in your nose while you were on the different meds? You may also consider getting a humidifier (available at drugstores and Walmart) to have in your room at night. Does wonders for this kind of thing.
