Q: my husband has what we think is a lare boil on the lower part of his abdomen. i used a potato on it last nite and it seemed to draw some of the infection out. i squeezed it some and all that came out was some blood and a little puss. it is very painful and is hot to the touch. what are some suggestions on getting this better and are these things contagious?? we have a 7 year old and a 4 month old. thanks for any advice in advance.

A: Boils are contagious, but it sounds like he has one hell of an ingrown hair. My fiance had that once and it took almost a year to heal. It was about the size of a grape. And it hurt. He’s so afraid of Dr.s so instead he’d squeeze out as much pus as he could until it bled everynight before bed and again in the morning. He did this for months until the hair finally made it’s way out. As for your husband I’d suggest going to the Dr. because even though it sounds simular to what my fiance had, it might not be the case. And you have children in the house.
