Wind Power as Alternative Source of Power

Wind Power as Alternative Source of Power

Using wind power as an alternative source of power can greatly improve your survivability in case of rolling black outs or natural disasters. There are many sources to teach you how to set up wind power, or how to build a wind power system for your self. Either way you go, it will benefit you in the long run.

In existing homes, a wind turbine or two can cut your power consumption from the grid with amazing results, even to the point of putting power back into the grid. You will save on your power bill by a well placed wind mill, or turbine, and a grid tie system.

Having one of the many companies who can set this wind power system up for you, can get rather expensive. My slant, if you are somewhat mechanically and electrically inclined, is to do research and build the system your self, which will save many dollars in set up costs.

If I were building a new home, I would include wind power as a matter of routine, incorporated into the electrical system. Again, in the long run it will save you money and you will be doing your part to conserve energy usage.

In my opinion, a combination system utilizing wind and solar power is the ultimate way to go. Think about the weather. When it is cold and stormy, using wind power from your wind turbine is utilized. When it is sunny and hot, using power from a solar panel is utilized. The combination of both systems covers all the bases for any type of weather. Under any weather conditions you will be generating electricity.

If you live an a sunny hot environment, then make solar your main alternative source of power. If you live in a windy area, make the wind power your main source of power creation. Using one or the other as a back up, to kick in when the other is running low.

Another source of power as an alternative is hydro power, for those lucky enough to live near a good running stream, setting up a water turbine power system is the way to go. Utilizing all three sources is the ultimate way to go in my opinion.

After setting up wind power as your source of back up power, you may want to consider getting off the grid entirely. Especially if you build a home or cabin in a remote place, using these sources of power can generate enough power to run your home with ease.

Living off the grid can be rewarding in that it gives you a sense of freedom and security when that disaster strikes, or when others have no power due to one reason or another.

Whatever method you decide to use, it just makes sense in this world of high energy prices, to use wind power as an alternative source of power. Do not let the media or others dissuade you in this effort.

I wish you the best of luck in your energy independence.
