Week 7: “The Biggest Loser” Teams Get Rearranged

Last week on “The Biggest Loser,” the contestants failed to lose a combined total of 100 lbs. so that no had to go home. Despite working out with all three trainers and winning a 10-point advantage, the weight-loss numbers were rather low, with Sunny — the biggest loser for the previous week — gaining 5 lbs. Love was in the air for Jessica and Ramon, with Ramon becoming upset when Anna emphasized the need for them to focus on weight loss and not letting love get in the way. This week, the teams get rearranged. No more were they divided by age; they had to mix it up a bit. Each team experienced growing pains this week.

As of Week 7, they’ve lost a combined total of 504 lbs. The show opened with Alison telling them to wear the shirts they wore at the beginning of the season. The Black Team didn’t like the idea of doing everything from scratch. Alison met them on the lawn displaying flags with the trainers names on them. She divided them in three sets of threes. Everyone though that they were in new teams. Alison told them that they would pick new teams.

In order to get the trainer they wanted, the contestants had to guess the calories of some of the foods they once enjoyed. Whoever came close to the right number of calories picked their preferred trainer. Jessica won the first round, picking Dolvett. Vinny picked Bob, leaving Anna for Ramon. Ramon acted like a baby because he had Anna. I thought she spoke the truth to him last week.

Next, Antone, John and Sunny had to guess the calories of their favorite foods. I could not believe how many calories they consumed in one meal. Antone won this round; he picked Bob. Sunny picked Anna after much deliberation. John did not want to train with Dolvett because he hates change and wanted to work with Bob. Joe, Becky and Bonnie were up last to look at their favorite foods. Becky won the challenge and picked Bob. Joe chose Anna. Bonnie was happy not to have to work with Anna, since they clashed. Dolvett is tough, so she may not be blowing kisses later. Later, Dolvett made her cry.

Ramon told Anna how he felt about her calling him and Jessica out at the weigh in. Anna said she just wanted to make sure he stayed focused on weight loss. Anna told Joe that he should not be hung up on a particular trainer. I thought the Ramon and Joe did not give Anna the respect she deserved. She told them that eventually none of the trainers would be in their lives. While the guys had a right to their opinion of Anna, she’s not the person who needs to be there. All I thought about was Jillian; she would have been a lot harsher than Anna. A lot of the other contestants were not happy with the changes as well. It seemed like Anna gained respect after the workout. Anna talked to them about growing up in Russia, which helped them understand why she doesn’t take excuses from them and wants the best.

The first challenge as new teams consisted of them sliding down a hill on Slip-n-Slide-like contraptions. At the end of the slide, they had to grab triangular objects and race up the hill. The triangles spelled out a word. The Blue Team won, spelling out immunity for one. They rock/paper/scissored for immunity; Joe won.

The last chance workout for all teams took place outside. Dolvett took his team to Muscle Beach, while Anna and Bob did a series of outdoor workouts in hilly terrains. It looked like Anna worked out her team at an observatory with stairs. Bob took his team to a waterfall after he gave them a killer workout. Because it was about halfway through the season, the producers played a montage of their former selves juxtaposed with their workouts.

At the weigh in, Alison revealed that the players on the other teams would decide who’d go home. It was filled with surprises. In general, change was good for their bodies. Most of the players lost more than 10 lbs.; Sunny, Jessica and Bonnie were the only three to get less than 10 lbs. Anna’s Blue Team had the highest percentage of weight loss and took first place for the first time. Vinnie and Joe even treated everyone to a jig. The new Red Team ended up with the lowest percentage of weight loss, with Bonnie and Jessica up for elimination. It was close, but Jessica went home right before she hit the 100s. Ramon was not happy, especially with his teammates. At home, Jessica weighed in at 185 lbs., going from a size 22 to a size 10.

This week proved that sometimes change helps the mind and body. Many of the players were not ready for change, but the weight-loss numbers illustrated the importance of shaking up your exercise routine. Ramon displayed levels of immaturity at one moment, followed by glimmers of maturity. Hopefully, he won’t let Jessica’s exit derail his plans.
