Video Game Themed Halloween Costume Ideas for Women

As a female gamer, why not incorporate your love of gaming into your costume this Halloween? Dressing up as your favorite female game character will enable you to live as her for a day, something you know you’ve always, on some level, wanted to do. Best of all, dressing up as a video game character is sure to make you stand out at Halloween parties and events, and the chances of you running into someone in the same costume are smaller than if you were dressing as a popular celebrity or wearing one of the popular costumes sold at party stores. While you may have a particular video game character in mind already, here are some ideas for video game themed Halloween costumes for women.

Alice: American Mcgee’s “Alice” and “Alice, Madness Returns”

This year I am dressing up as Alice from American McGee’s “Alice,” and I am anxiously counting down the days until I can parade around in a blood-soaked apron and combat boots. The costume Alice wears in the game is basically nothing more than a slightly altered version of the dress worn by Alice in the Disney film; a blue dress with puffed sleeves and a white apron. However, American McGee’s Alice also has a skull on the bow on the back of her dress, blood stains across her apron, alchemical symbols on her apron pockets and a necklace featuring the Greek symbol for “Omega.” You can easily make your own Alice costume, or Legg Avenue does offer a replica already sewn together for you. Complete your Alice costume with a pair of striped thigh highs and some combat boots.

The AntAgonizer: “Fallout 3″

Wannabe super villainess the AntAgonizer was one of the most memorable and humorous characters in “Fallout 3″ and dressing up as her for Halloween will allow you to let out your own devious side. You can easily make your own AntAgonizer costume by modifying any armored costume with some brass spray paint and paper machet. Refer to a photo still from the game while painting the shoulders and ant logo onto your costume, and use some paper machet to create a set of antennas on any plastic helmet from a Halloween store. Wear black pants and a black shirt underneath your armor, and finish the look off with a set of steampunk inspired goggles.

Princess Zelda: Nintendo’s “Zelda” Franchise

Few franchises in gaming history have reached the same level of popularity as the “Zelda” franchise, and the princess in which the series is named is an icon in the gaming world. Zelda wears a regal looking dress of pink and white in most versions, along with a gold and pink jeweled head crown. Refer to your favorite version of her when compiling your costume, and be sure to wear a blonde wig and a set of pointed ears on Halloween night.

Lara Croft: “Tomb Raider” Franchise

Like Princess Zelda, Lara Croft has forever sealed her spot in female video game character history. Dressing up as Lara for Halloween is as simple as making a quick trip to your local thrift store to pick up a tank top, some black leather shorts and a pair of boots. Finish off the look with a long braided wig, a costume gun holster and a set of plastic pistols.

Dark Brotherhood Assassin: “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion”

While some people do indeed play as a male character when creating their character on “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,” it is undeniable that the Shrouded Armor worn by Dark Brotherhood assassins looks far better on females. To dress up as a member of the Dark Brotherhood, use black leather or vinyl to create the shoulder padding of the costume. Wear black pants, a black turtleneck and black combat boots underneath, throw on a black hood, and don’t forget to adorn the shoulder of your costume with the hand of Sithis using some red craft paint. Make the costume your own by carrying the weapon of your choice, be it a sword, a dagger, or a bow and arrows.

Claire Redfield: “Resident Evil Franchise”

The true female protagonist of “Resident Evil,” Claire Redfield is a great video game themed Halloween costume idea to consider. Wear a red button up tank over a black tee shirt with a pair of short black shorts, throw on some brown boots and take a few plastic pistols out with you while making the rounds on Halloween night.

Little Sister: “Bioshock”

The creepy, yellow-eyed, ADAM gun toting girls of “Bioshock” are the perfect place to fins inspiration this Halloween. Wear a distressed looking puff sleeved dress, some bobby socks and a pair of Mary Jane shoes. Pull your hair back with a ribbon and put in some yellow contacts to complete your look.
