Unanswered Questions in the Gears of War Video Games

At the end of Gears of War 3, the Lambent and Locust are defeated. The COGs finally have a chance to rebuild their lives. Many questions were answered, but some still linger in the minds of fans. Will Gears players ever get the information they want? Here are some of the biggest unanswered questions from the Gears of War series.

What is Queen Myrrah?
The Locust aren’t pretty by any means, so why do they have a queen that is nothing like them? Myrrah looks human, so why is she in league with the enemy? Not only does she look human, she speaks Tyran well, unlike the Locust horde. It’s possible that she’s half Locust, although there’s no solid proof. Locust Drone females are the blind Berserkers. Unlike the males, Berserkers can’t use weapons and seem completely uncontrollable. Even the COGs wonder about her origin. Baird once jokingly asks if she joined the “Locust Country Club.” Cole has commented that he thought she was suppose to be “butt ugly.” This is the biggest question that doesn’t get any answers in the Gears series.

What is Adam and Myrrah’s history?
The surprising revelation that Adam and Myrrah knew each other 20 years before Emergence Day is never addressed. What was the nature of their relationship? Why does Adam try so hard to save the Locusts from the Lambent infection? One reason might be that Myrrah is really Marcus’ mother. Although, there is little more then speculation keeping this rumor alive. Marcus’ mother was suppose to have died nine years before Emergence Day. Her body was later found in the Hollow. Another theory is that Myrrah is a former lover of Adam’s. While there is nothing to support this, it can be a possible explanation as to why Adam seems to have feelings for her.

What ever happened to the Sires from Gears 2?
The Sires were found in the New Hope Research Facility by Marcus and Dom. What purpose the Sires serve isn’t entirely clear, but some collectibles point to them being created in the hope that the future would benefit from the research. One of the collectible items mentioned a 15 year old girl named Ruth who was in involved in “studies.” Her physical appearance has changed, she was in pain, and was emotionally unstable. What ever the the experiments tried to do, they failed and the facility was shut down. Unfortunately, Gears 2 is the only time we see Sires. Many fans were hoping to get some more answers on their origin and purpose. They seemed to have disappeared from Sera during Gears 3.

When a series ends, it’s difficult to answer every little thing fans want to know. With the Gears of War franchise, they left big questions open. Perhaps a future game or DLC will give fans the answers.
