Turn that Yard Full of Leaves to Halloween Decor

Wondering what to do with that yard full of leaves? Don’t just bag them and toss them to the curbside for trash pick up. Create a family day with hours of fun, while getting the children to help. These are just a few ideas to have fun and get the leaves picked up.

Items needed are an old pair of pants, and a shirt (the bigger, the better), belt, Halloween mask, styrofoam manikin head, hat, gloves, and old shoes. These may be things that you already have around the house. Also, required are Halloween orange pumpkin trash bags. These can be purchased at any grocery or department store.

Gather the family and have a good time. Pile the leaves in a huge pile. Have fun; let the children jump in them for awhile. This can be an amusing time for both the children and adults. Toss the leaves and let them fall, flying through the air. This may suggest another rake job, but quite entertaining.

Next, create a spooky Halloween character using the pants, shirt, belt, Halloween mask, styrofoam manikin head, hat, gloves and old shoes. Insert the belt into the belt loops of the pants. Tie the pants and the shirt at the bottom and then the shirt sleeves. Stuff the pants with leaves until the pants are full. Place the pants in a sitting position in a chair, on the porch, or in the yard. Fill the shirt with leaves and set on top of the pants. Push the shirt into the pants and fasten the belt. The manikin head can now be positioned on top of the shirt, inside the collar. Cover the manikin head with the scary mask you choose and place the hat on the head. Push the gloves on the sleeves of the shirt. And, last the shoes on the ends of the pants. This can be a festive Halloween decoration and many ideas can be used in creating your spooky creature.

Last is making Halloween pumpkins using the orange trash bags. Stuff the remaining leaves into the bags until all leaves are gone or enough bags are filled to decorate the area you choose. Tie the bags and place around the porch or in the yard to add a special touch to decorating.

These are just a few ideas on how to make the dreaded leaves, a fun day for the whole family.
