The Lost City of Lemuria

Just like the lost city of Atlantis, scientists have proposed theories that another city by the name of ‘Lemuria’ or commonly known as ‘Mu’ (Motherland) once existed over 60,000 years ago where either the Pacific ocean or the Indian ocean exists now. Although solid evidence of the existence of this lost city does not actually exist, scientists have proposed the theory based on tradition that has been passed down by tribes amongst the Pacific islands for hundreds of years. Folk traditions, religious teachings, art and even architecture from the Pacific Rim all the way to the Gobi desert seem to point scientists to the conclusion that all of these teaching may have derived from an ‘ancient motherland’. It is believed that just like the lost city of Atlantis, Lemuria was too sunken by natural disasters due to shifts in tectonic plates leaving only a handful of remaining survivors to carry on the existence of their culture.

To support this theory, experts such as Ernst Heinrich Haeckel (1843 – 1919) and Philip Lutley Sclater (1829 – 1913) suggested that a ‘land-bridge’ spanned across the Indian ocean at one point in time which would help explain why mammals such as Lemurs were found all over Africa, Madagascar, India and even parts of the East Indian archipelago. If this land-bridge existed at one point in time than scientists also have to conclude the possibility that cities may have been erected there as well. Cities that also could have had technologies and sciences that may have been greater in comparison of today’s technologies and sciences. This is the issue that leaves many scientists baffled because of the lack of physical evidence that is able to be salvaged combined with the constant discoveries of unexplained ancient cities and monuments.

Unfortunately the city of Lemuria itself has yet to be discovered however, scientists are finding new archaeological evidence everyday that seem to not only double our understanding of our own human history but also enlightens where we may have originated from and when.
