The Current State of the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have drastically fell off the map, and left the city of Seattle outside in the rain and the cold. With the Seattle Mariners in the perennial cellar and the Seattle SuperSonics kidnapped by a gang of bumbling, awkward cowboys, the 12th man must sit and ponder the mistakes of its past and the promises of the future.

The team has invested high draft picks in the offensive line, a core group for any NFL franchise. They drafted bookend tackles in the first round; Russell Okung in the top five and James Carpenter late in the first round, a pick that garnered much criticism. Paired with rookie John Moffitt the right side of the line looks like it will grow to be formidable for years to come. If a team can draft a tandem like that in the first few rounds of a draft, then that’s a heck of a day. It’s not reaching when you get a quality starter, which the Seahawks just might have.

The defense of this team is nasty. Big Red Bryant has been a monster at defensive end for some time now. He is the anchor of this defense, which was proved after his injury in Oakland last Halloween,. He swallows people. The young linebackers have really stepped up, and the subtraction of Aaron Curry is a breath of fresh air. The Hawks have also gotten younger at the cornerback position, and have the oppurtunity of turning late rounder Richard Sherman into a quality defensive back this season after he handled A.J. Green of Cincinnati.

If the Hawks can get their hands on a quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft, then in a couple of years they might have something really special. They are rebuilding, though, and the regime is smart enough to do this the correct way and take the time to do it properly. We just need to give this regime some time, Seattle. This city really needs to rest up and recover.
