Tax Free Weekend in Virginia This Weekend

Parents get so excited about no sales tax on clothing for back to school, but many forget about the tax free on household essentials that happens in Virginia once a year. This weekend, Columbus Day weekend, people can take advantage of tax free on household appliances. What is great about this weekend being tax-free weekend is that many of these appliances are already at a low sales price, which means more savings for you.

In prior years, electronics retailers have paid the sales tax for you on non-appliance items. It’s actually when we bought a computer one year and a television the next. Saving 5% on a thousand dollar purchase definitely goes a lot further when you spend it on household items. Doubling that with the sale prices might just push you into being able to get the next best line and still work it into your budget.

So while no taxes on clothing and back to school supplies is a great bonus, the 5% sales tax of Virginia doesn’t really go a long way in that regard. Especially when this shopper usually buys used clothes at yard sales and consignment sales so doesn’t pay sales tax anyways. However, being able to finally replace that run-down or broken computer, television, or household appliance and pay no sales tax is something to get excited about!
