Tails Returns for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 was a nostalgic sequel based off the successful Sega Genesis series of games. It feature Sonic in 2D levels with updated graphics, controls and new level designs that paid homage to the original series. The new game will have a multi-platform release in 2012 and bring back a lot of classic Sonic the Hedgehog elements.

The Return of Tails

One of the biggest things missing from Episode 1 was the inclusion of Sonic’s flying friend Tails. In the teaser trailer for Episode 2, it’s clear that Tails returns, and a multi-player function could be a large element of the game creation.

Adding Tails to the game with add to the replay value. Using Sonic to get through levels with speed is exciting, but a whole other element is added with Tails’ flying ability. Tails seems to be a large part of the game because his two tails are the “2” logo in Episode 2.

Episode 2 Improvements

Episode 1 was a memorable game and a great download, but there were a lot of criticisms considering elements and game play. The main concern was about the way Sonic moved across levels.

In the older Sega Genesis games, Sonic had a nice flow that players could predict and control. In Episode 1 Sonic felt stiff, especially in the jumps and at high speeds. Episode 2 will improve the gameplay and Sonic will feel more natural when using a controller.

Multi-Platform Release

Sonic fans will have easy access to the game when it is released in 2012. Along with Xbox 360, and PS3 releases, Episode 2 will have releases on Android devices, iPhone devices and Windows based phones. Surprisingly, there will not be an Episode 2 release on the Wii console even though Episode 1 had a release through the WiiWare program.

There have not been any price releases or more in depth news for level design and other content. One of the final images in the teaser trailer is a small graphic of the Silver Sonic, a villainous robot that has all the powers of the original Sonic. This is a branch off of the Dr. Eggman villain from Episode 1.
