Sports Briefs: LeBron James in Briefs

Chris: Thanks to a prolonged absence, fans have been spared watching one the game’s most talented players take a backseat to a less-talented teammate and disappear during clutch time and instead have witnessed said player showcase increasingly odd behavior and unusual choices during their time off. However, Alex Rodriguez was able to overcome an injury and ride Derek Jeter’s coattails to a World Series in 2009. And all this time, LeBron James has been compared to other greats in his sport, when it is apparent that LeBron is quickly becoming the A-Rod of the NBA: its most talented player in need of the same parts the Scarecrow and Tin Man requested.

Joe: LeBron James = a Rich Joke.

Brad: I didn’t like that he moved to the Miami Heat, even though they are one of my favorite teams. He has been a strong player season after season, and I have come to respect his decision to make the move to better his career and possibly his record as an athlete. I still think he let his hometown down in the way he handled the situation, waiting until the last moment. But hopefully his fan base has also gotten over it to continue to see what he can do.

Ralphie: He is a really good basketball player. He is really probably one of the best

Chris: To LeBron’s benefit, he has yet to be photographed kissing himself in a mirror. Although, after revealing his plans to surgically amend his receding hairline, he may give it second thoughts if the procedure goes according to plan.

Ralphie: I think he needs to stick with basketball. He’s really good at it, and I think he just needs to keep working at getting even better.

Chris: James has succeeded at getting better at being controversial. Other basketball players don’t publicly inquire with John Clayton when the NFL’s deadline to sign free agents is: partly because there is no deadline and mostly because basketball players are either focused on playing basketball or recording rap albums. Dwyane Wade isn’t planning on suiting up for the Miami Dolphins. Bimbo Coles wouldn’t do that.

Brad: He could end up doing well since he was a decent player in high school

Joe: LeBron would get killed in the NFL. LeBron is too big and too slow to play anything but pro basketball. That being said, he might want to give pro volleyball a try.

Ralphie: It might be fun to see him play one or two games, but I don’t want him to quit playing basketball or even do two sports at one time.

Brad: I am not a big fan of players switching sports at the pro level. I feel that players earn their way into the pros by putting in the time playing in school, college. When a pro player goes from one sport to another, because they own the team, or whatever the scenario, it takes a spot away from a player who has worked to get to the pros.

Joe: Thank goodness for LeBron that being an owner of a pro soccer team doesn’t require any knowledge of the sport.

Chris: Liverpool’s rivals are all exceedingly pleasured for LeBron to be a part owner of a foreign club in a sport he has never noticeably supported. And rival teams may experience unparalleled euphoria if LeBron ever gets input on decisions. Steve Nash is a part owner of an MLS team, but Nash does not receive confused looks of askance, since he is a soccer fan. This leads me to my hypothesis that LeBron is a fan of the income that Liverpool generates.

Brad: If I made $14 million a year, I would probably own a team or something too. It doesn’t seem to distract his game.

Ralphie: I guess he’s got the money. Maybe one day, I’ll have enough money to own part of a baseball team. That would be really cool.

Joe: My advice to LeBron during the lockout is to work on his next infomercial-the first one was a bust.

Ralphie: Practice a lot. If he doesn’t practice during the lockout, he might not be as good when the lockout is over.

Brad: Make wise investments and don’t marry Kim Kardashian.

Chris: Although, I hear Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Madonna and a mirror with lip-prints are all available.
