Soul Surfer – Most Inspirational Movie of 2011

One of my favorite pastime is watching a movie, and my favorite movies are based on real life events. That is why I enjoy watching the movie ‘Soul Surfer’. ‘Soul Surfer’ is not your typical movie, but one that has inspired many people around the world to achieve their goals. It is heartfelt, encouraging and very emotional, as well as, one I highly recommend you watch.

The movie ‘Soul Surfer’ is about the life and triumph of Bethany Hamilton. At the age of 13, Hamilton was a surfing prodigy. Surfing ran through her blood, and it was her desire to be a professional surfer. She was proving to be just that as Bethany made it to the Hawaii Regional Surfer Competition.

Along with her best friend, Alana, Bethany would train and work hard in hopes of winning that competition. Her dream of winning over took her life, and Bethany would walk away from helping others when she decided to train instead of going on a missionary trip to Mexico.

However, her decision to remain home would soon change her life. While out training with Alana, a tiger shark would come out of nowhere and bite off her arm. Alana’s father, who was with them at the time, would get Hamilton out of the water. Then, with the help of his son and daughter, the trio managed to get Bethany to the ambulance that was already on the way.

While all of this was going on, Bethany’s father was about to go into surgery. Tom Hamilton was scheduled for knee surgery and was already in the operating room when he was told about his only daughter. In the end, Hamilton would end up losing her left arm and a good amount of blood, but would survive.

However, she would begin to question her life. While searching for answers, Bethany would join her church’s missionary group to Thailand shortly after hearing about the 2004 earthquake and typhoon. While there, Bethany would rediscover who she was and would return home with the urge to surf.

With the help of her father, Bethany would overcome the struggle of learning how to surf with only one arm. She would even decide to reenter the competition, which would lead to inspiring thousands of disabled people around the world.

It was her struggle and strength that would touch their hearts, and Bethany would find encouragement in their letters. She would succeed in the tournament, but due to time elapsing she would not win. Bethany would later become a professional surfer and a inspiration to many people. Bethany’s journey was proof that she was and always would be a soul surfer.
