Rosh Hashanah: The Honey Holiday

Fall is in the air. Therefore, it is time for the new year. no, 2011 doesn’t end in September. I am talking about the Jewish New Year. The Jewish New Year is called Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is symbolized by sweet things. It is usually symbolized by honey. In fact, many foods that are eaten for Rosh Hashanah are sweet. This Jewish holiday has meant much to me. Here is why this holiday is significant in my life.

Rosh Hashanah takes place in September. It may takes place in early or late September; however, it always starts in September. This holiday is significant to me because my birthday also is in September. I love celebrating my birthday and Rosh Hashanah in the same month. In addiition, Rosh Hashanah is symbolized with honey. I love eating honey and Honey is my middle name. Rosh Hashanah is a sweet fall holiday.

I love to cook and bake during holidays. Rosh Hashanah is no exception to this rule. I usually make a sweet noodle pudding and baked apples and honey. This year I am going to make a couple of chicken breast marinated in a honey glaze. Also, I will bake my first honey cake. Moreover, since Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, it is also time for a fresh start. I like to make a few resolutions on Rosh Hashanah. This holiday offers people a sweet start to a new year.
