Review of Quest Protein Bars

I had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago, plus I am a vegetarian, so sometimes I have trouble getting enough protein. I use protein bars to supplement my diet, plus they just make a quick and easy snack when I’m busy. Several of my friends were always raving about Quest protein bars so I decided to try them out. Few stores carry them so I had to order them online. You can order them by the box or you can order single bars, so I ordered single bars of several different flavors to see which ones I liked best.

I had been told that the Quest protein bars are very filling, and I found that to be true. I can eat a whole bar, but I feel very full afterward. They contain very little sugar, which is something I like about them since I don’t tolerate too much sugar since my gastric bypass, and they don’t taste as sweet as many protein bars do. They have a number of flavors that do not include chocolate, and while I love chocolate as much as the next person, I do like having non-chocolate alternatives sometimes. The Quest bars are not coated in chocolate, like many protein bars are, so they would not make a mess if you kept them in your purse or in your car during warm weather.

A friend told me she prefers to microwave her Quest bars for a few seconds before eating them. I tried a few bites cold, and the bar seemed kind of hard and dry. I nuked it for 15 seconds and it softened up and seemed more moist and fresh-tasting. Of course, if I’m out and about and need a quick snack I probably won’t have a microwave and a plate handy. I liked the Quest bars significantly better when warmed a bit, though.

Quest protein bars are available in many flavors, including chocolate peanut butter, cinnamon roll, apple pie, chocolate brownie, strawberry cheesecake, lemon cream pie and peanut butter and jelly. My favorites are the cinnamon roll and the lemon cream pie. Nutritional statistics vary slightly from flavor to flavor but all have 20 grams of protein. Calories vary from 160 to 210 and the Quest bars have one or two grams of sugar each.

While I liked the flavors I tried, they aren’t my favorite protein bars out there, and the fact that I have to order them online means I probably won’t be buying them often. The cost of shipping is just too high. Still, if you’re looking for a protein bar with a reasonable number of calories, a good amount of protein and not much sugar, you might want to give them a try.
