ELF Mineral Lipsticks have gotten a lot of hype for their color selection, quality and price. I finally got the opportunity to try them out. I bought a few shades, one of them being Nicely Nude, which is a light pink color with a slight golden shimmer in the lipstick tube that is not really apparent applied on the lips. It is a fresh bright looking pink that is perfect for adding a nice splash of color to the lips.
The lipstick came in black square packaging. While I had heard tons of good things about this packaging, I actually felt like this packaging was rather cheap and didn’t feel quite sturdy in my hands, though I am glad that the tube inside is metal. The ELF logo is printed on the top, and along the side are the words “Eyes Lips Face.” The lipstick itself is elegantly packaged, an unassuming black tube with a white label on the bottom for the color.
The lipstick itself comes to a nice point with a flat edge for easy application. I really like the appearance of the tip of the lipstick because it makes for easy application. The lipstick is soft and creamy, but does not appear to have a creamy finish. While it does not moisturize, it does feel smooth on the lips, though it will accentuate dry skin on the lips, so be sure to exfoliate and moisturize the lips. I do like the texture of the lipstick, but unfortunately the lipstick is so soft that it snapped as soon as I tried to apply it to my lips. The softness of the lipstick decreases its quality by a lot. I was disappointed that these lipsticks do not hold up to continued use at all.
While I do think this is a flattering color for certain skin tones (fair, light and/or cool skin) because it adds a youthful pop of color to the lips, its quality certainly doesn’t live up to my standards. If you plan to depot this lipstick or melt it into a pan, I think that would be perfectly acceptable, but it is not lipstick tube friendly at all, so if you choose to purchase this lipstick, definitely do not twist it out very much when applying it.
