Pink Banky

Banky wasn’t an average rabbit. She was pink, with only the top of of a rabbit and a small cloth square as a bottom; almost blanket like you could say. Every day she hung in the store, watching the children walk by with their stuffed rabbits. Full rabbits, with strong hind legs to jump. Not Banky though, she only had this square cloth, that did nothing but lay limply beneath her. “This is why,” she thought to herself, “I won’t ever have my own child to take care of.”

Another lonely night passed and came in a new day. Mundane, like usual, as Banky watched all the parents and children stroll on by. As Banky eyed the cotton tail of a nearby rabbit, she failed to realize the woman in front of her, reaching out to remove her from the hook she was hanging from. Banky huffed as the woman grasped Banky’s waist, and hoisted her up and dropped her into the woman’s cart. Banky was whisked away and shoved into a bag, and taken away. She was thrown onto a hard surface that roared to life and started inching back until it took off.

After a terrorizing ride the monster started to slow. It stopped, and the rumbling ceased. Banky waited anxiously for what would happen next. A bright light shone through the plastic, making Banky throw up her paws to protect her eyes. The bag surrounding her was lifted, carrying her to yet another new domain.

The woman who had originally taken her from her home reached into the bag, picking up Banky by her ear. Banky was carried to a table, where the woman picked up a pair of scissors and snipped off the tags on Banky’s ear and on her blanket. She then carried Banky into another room. It was pink like Banky, and had flowers all over the walls. Banky was placed neatly upon a chair, then the woman left.

Hours passed as Banky sat in that large room, all by herself. She could hear the other animals whispering, see them pointing out of the corner of her eye. “Wonderful,” she sighed, “Another place I don’t fit in.” As the light shining through the curtains in the room began to dim the door creaked open, and a small, baby girl walked in. She looked over to the chair a Banky, and Banky stared straight back at her. The girl let out a squeal and yanked Banky from the chair and ran out the room, waving Banky in the air.

The woman who had originally found Banky picked the girl up and carried her back to her room. She placed the girl in her crib and turned on the mobile. Kissing her and telling her “Good night,” the woman tucked a blanket around her baby, who pulled Banky in close, burying her face in Banky’s fuzzy coat. The lights went off, and the baby girl drifted off to sleep. Banky cuddled closer to the girl, warm and content. After her terrorizing journey she’s finally found a home, and a child to call her own.
