Ohio Festivals in October Make for Great Fall Travel

Enjoy Fall travel across Ohio this autumn and check out the amazing fall festivals many counties have in store for visitors. Each of these festivals in October bring something new and different you won’t find anywhere else in the world. For the photographer in the family, be sure to pack some extra film or an extra memory card as the scenery will be magnificent!

Fall Festival of Leaves. Scheduled for the third weekend in October, the Fall Festival of Leaves has planned some exciting fall events for visitors. Among some of the events scheduled are kiddie tractor pull, arts and crafts, karaoke, live music, cloggers, ZUMBA, 5K run/walk, live pet show, stuffed pet show, car and truck show, log sawing, parade and much more. Located in Bainbridge, Ohio, the Fall Festival of Leaves is a free event to visitors, but you’ll want to bring plenty of cash to spend at the terrific booths set up around the festival. The Pumpkin Show. Located in Circleville, Ohio, the Pumpkin Show is set for the third week in October (Wednesday-Saturday) and is known for its numerous parades. Bring along your biggest pumpkin for the giant pumpkin competition or bring along your pumpkin carving tools and join in the giant pumpkin carving fall event. There have even been some giant pumpkins weighing in at more than 1,300 pounds! Some of the parades on the list of events include: Little Miss Pumpkin Show, Miss Pumpkin Show, Baby Parade, Parade of Bands, Pet Parade, Parade of Fraternal & Civic Organizations, and the Queen’s Parade. Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival. Put this Fall travel idea on your list of things to do in Ohio this year. Located in Coshocton, Ohio, at the Historic Roscoe Village, the Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival is scheduled for the second full weekend in October. This October festival is packed full of Autumn wonders. Step out of your vehicle to smell apple butter simmering over open fires, hear the music of the Appalachian people, and visit the many local crafters who will be set up to sell their handmade crafts. Admission to this October festival is $3 per person. Children 11 years old and younger are free. Parking is also free.

Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. Located in Waynesville, Ohio, the annual Ohio Sauerkraut Festival is scheduled for the second full weekend in October and plans to serve up more than 11,000 pounds of sauerkraut during the autumn festival. How do they expect visitors to eat that many pounds of sauerkraut? Easy. They put it in just about anything they can think of such as: ice cream, pizza, donuts and even brownies. Bring along your largest cabbage and enter it into one of the three competitions: most congenial cabbage, greenest cabbage and the biggest cabbage. Admission is free. Ashtabula County Ohio Covered Bridge Festival. An October festival that you’ll have to experience for yourself. While there will be fall activities like parades, pancake breakfast, crafts, chain saw carvings, and live music scheduled for this Ohio festival, the main attraction is the 17 different covered bridges that visitors come from all over to view and take pictures of. Pack a picnic lunch and grab a map from the festival, then set out on a beautiful journey to discover Ohio in the Fall while taking in all the glorious covered bridges of the area.
