New York City’s Grand Central Market – A Great Gourmet Food Shopping Experience

Grand Central Market is a gourmet food shopping experience in the center of New York City. What makes it so wonderful is that some of New York City’s finest food stores are all located in one place. Located on the east side of Grand Central Terminal, Grand Central Market is a European-style food emporium under one roof in the Manhattan, with a street entrance on Lexington and 43rd Street.

The first time I went to Grand Central Market in New York City I immediately felt that I was going to like the place and could spend half a day there. Not only was this indoor Manhattan marketplace practical but beautiful as well, including one of the largest chandeliers I have ever seen. This beautiful chandelier spans 25 feet and is shaped like an olive tree with 5000 crystal pendants as it hangs suspended above the street level entrance to the marketplace.

Here is an overview of a few of the gourmet food shops in Brand Central Marketplace.

*Murray’s Cheese has been offering phenomenal selections of cheeses from all over the world since 1940 in its original Greenwich Village location on Bleecker Street. The staff is more than happy to let you sample the many cheeses and explain about each one.

*If you are looking for fresh seafood Pescatore Seafood Company is here. They have been rated New York’s #1 seafood retailer in the city and offer the freshest seafood from around the world as well as local waters. This well-known pescheria sells fresh seafood as well as already prepared seafood dishes.

*Ceriello features a huge variety of Italian meats especially sausages that are not easily found anywhere else. They also make and sell their own brand of dressings and sauces for you to take home to your own cucina (kitchen).

*Zaro’s Bread Basket has been offering delicious baked goods in the New York area for over 75 years and you can smell the aroma as you get close to their shop. With over 30 varieties of breads and rolls, they also sell cheesecakes and a variety of other foods.

*Dishes at Home is a favorite for anyone who doesn’t have time to cook. Specializing in prepared dishes with an emphasis on healthy foods, they offer soups, side dishes and marinated poultry dishes as well as desserts.

*For the freshest produce, Greenwich Produce has two locations in Grand Central Market and it is so appealing to all of the senses. Fresh fruits and vegetables as well as dried herbs and fruits, nuts and fresh flowers are available although the prices are not cheap. You are after all in Manhattan and this is a gourmet shopping venue, so you may as well enjoy the total experience.

For the chocoholics don’t miss Li-Lac Chocolates which has been producing concoctions made of chocolate since 1923. Whether it is French mint chocolate bars or chocolate-covered orange peel, there is something for every chocolate lover’s taste buds here.

Don’t miss stopping in to Grand Central Market on your next trip to the city. It is every bit as enjoyable as other more popular tourist attractions in New York.
