Microsoft Exec – Mango Has Been Ready for Public Release for Months

Windows Phone is beginning to make a name for itself now and with the imminent release of the Windows Phone update (codename Mango) the mobile operating system will start to offer some serious competition to both Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android, but when will Mango be released?

Mango is ready to roll

There had been some rumors flying around that Mango would be released to users on September first, but Microsoft rejected those rumors and said it would not be ready for such an early release, but with the release of the first Mango phone in Japan in just three days, users cannot help but be excited about the upcoming update.

Today, one Microsoft executive decided to release a statement of his own in regards to Mango. According to Peter Wissinger, Microsoft’s Director of Mobile business for the Nordic region, Mango has been ready for a long time, and that the hold up is down to the handset manufacturers. He believes that Mango could easily be released on September, but there is little hope of that.

Who is to blame for the delay?

Handset manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Nokia always put new updates through rigorous tests to make sure that their devices are completely compatible with the new software before giving the go ahead for public release. Once the handset makers have given the all clear, users will then have to wait for the network carriers to approve and release the software for download.

The major network operators in America are coming under increasing pressure from the public when it comes to releasing new updates for phones. The likes of T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon seem to hold out as long as possible before releasing new software updates in the hope that users will just buy a new phone, with the new software already installed on it. This practice has actually led to a couple of class action lawsuits in the past year alone.

Admittedly, a lot of the delays come from the carriers wanting to install their own custom software onto the devices, but the main reason is that they are against updating phones as it hurts sales of newly released devices.

Now that the Windows Phone faithful know that the Mango update is ready to go, there will surely be some pressure applied to the makers, and the carriers to get the update to market as soon as possible. The Mango update is going to reshape the mobile operating system map. Both Apple and Google are well aware that Microsofts mobile platform is going to give them a serious run for their money, and that Windows Phone will do more then compete with iOS and Android.
