Loom Knit a Tissue Box Cover

Make a tissue box cover with a 31 peg loom. You’ll need a loom, a large eyed needle, and two skeins of yarn. They can be different colors. This pattern will not use the full amounts of your skeins. The cover will fit most rectangular boxes. The boxes I used were 8 ¾ inches by 4 1/4 th inches and 10 inches by 5 inches. The same pattern fit both of them, though the larger box was a little snug.

Cast onto all the pegs of your loom and knit in the round for 9 rounds. For round 10 you will knit to the 30 th peg and turn. Flat knit for 18 rows. Then, knit in the round for 8 rounds. Knit off all your stitches and weave in your tails. This creates a basic tissue box cover.

For a pocket, cast onto 6 pegs and flat knit for 30 rows. Bind off all stitches and leave a long tail when you cut the thread. Sew the pocket to the front of the tissue box. You may seam multiple pockets, as I did on my second tissue box cover or 1 long pocket. This can hold a small bottle of hand gel, a lip balm or any other handy item nearby with your tissues.

You can add a lady by using an 8 peg loom and a small amount of yarn. Cast onto all the pegs of your loom. On round 1, knit 2 stitches on each peg by knitting off the first e-wrap, then knitting off the 1 st stitch. On round 2, knit 2 stitches on every alternate peg by knitting off the first wrap, then the resulting stitch. For every other stitch knit 1 as normal. On round 3, knit 2 stitches on every 3 rd peg by knitting off the first wrap, then the resulting stitch. For the 2 next stitches knit 1 as normal. This creates a bit of fullness for the ladies dress. For rounds 4 through 6 knit around. This completes the skirt. If you want to change colors for the shirt you can by attaching a new color to the beginning of the round. Knit 4 rows for the shirt. For round 5, knit 2, knit 18 for the arms on peg 3, knit 2, knit 18 for the arms on peg 6, knit the last 2 stitches. Now you’ll start on the head. Knit 5 rounds, pick off all stitches. Insert a large bead or stuffing into the head and draw the stitches closed. You may use some of the tail to weave down to the neck and draw that around the bead or stuffing. Weave in any loose yarn. You can make a bonnet for your lady by casting onto all the pegs of the little loom and knitting 5 rounds before picking off all the stitches and drawing them closed. Sew onto the head. Fluff out the skirt and seam it to the corner of the box. If you seam her “hands” closed before her you can place a lip balm in her arms.

You can also add a kitty kat to the box. The pattern is free at http://myyarncraftsplus.weebly.com/yarn-crafts–knifty-knit.html .
