Lady Gaga is certainly not one to shy away from controversy or originality. She may be borrowing her everything from the Book of Madonna, but she does it with her own twist. She always likes to be teetering with one foot on the edge of insanity and the other on the edge of genius. She has redrawn that line. You never know what you are going to get with her. She is like a box of chocolates. With or without meat.
Tonight, at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, she decided to debut her best persona since she wore the wedding dress and performed Like A Virgin at the 1984 VMAs. That was her, right? Tonight, she became a man. It wasn’t that she grew up. She did that long ago. No, she literally morphed into a man. But not just any old man. She became Nick, Carla’s husband from Cheers. She became one of the Good Fellas. She’s Tony Soprano’s worst nightmare. She pulled off a better Pacino impression than Pacino. This was complete Hollywood gold. It was also a good return to greatness after that meat suit fiasco.
Am I the only one who, if the mute button was pressed on the TV remote, wouldn’t be able to tell that it wasn’t a man? She was so convincing. Seriously, she’s the best reverse drag queen ever. Loved this costume. You know that this will be the most popular Halloween disguise this year; except in New Jersey and the Bronx, where they look like this everyday.
So, Madame/Mr. Gaga, keep recreating yourself. Keep being original. Keep making good music. Keep on rocking in the free world.
