Jarro Cafe, Houston, TX

Recently and when I say “recently” I mean yesterday, I drove close to 32 miles to go eat at Jarro Cafe, located at the West side of Houston, Texas. Right on the other side of The Memorial Mall on Gessner. Apparently at some point and according to their website The Houston Press named their salsas “One of Houston’s Best.” Now, let me stop a little bit here and talk about the Mexican knowledge I have about tacos. Some people take for granted the awesomeness of tacos, they believe that the best of tacos are the ones they eat at the Mexican buffet’s or at the fast food place where they tell you to think out of the bun. I am not an expert on tacos and have no idea about their history or where they came from but I do know what makes a taco a taco and one of the things that makes a great taco it’s the salsa. Yes, red or green the salsa it’s an important, let’s call it, side dish. It doesn’t really matter how delicious the taco is, without the salsa, there’s no taco. And how you eat the taco it’s a ritual. You have to tilt your head at certain degree where you know you won’t spill anything of the taco on you. But going back to Jarro Cafe, these guys have 6 different types of salsa but if you are not a salsa lover they will give you a heart attack, they are really spicy. They Beatles posters and play their music because if you haven’t figure it out yet, Jarro Cafe is how some Hispanics would pronounce “Hard Rock Cafe” yeah, eat that one with a taco, huh? But in the meantime, if you are on that side of town or if you are planning in visiting Houston, TX you have to stop by Jarro Cafe and enjoy some good Beatles tunes with awesome tacos and not to mention their really good salsas.
