“Jane Eyre”

My favorite film of 2011 so far is Jane Eyre now if I saw Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris yet I would probably had said that. Anyway I love this film because it’s a true Gothic film because well Jane Eyre is a gothic novel it’s not a sappy romantic book. The cast is perfect and the setting was very dark and moody. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for Period films so was very happy to watch this film. I loved the cast and think that it wouldn’t be a Period film without the Dame Judi Dench.

The cast is perfect Jamie Bell is one of my new favorite actors he’s still as good as an actor as he was in Billy Elliot. Michael Fassbender is wonderful as the dark Mr. Rochester and Mia Wasikowska is perfect as the governess. The setting is dark and almost haunting and like I said the perfect Gothic setting. The Bronte Sisters wrote some of the best books and no offense to Jane Austen who I like her novels too I think the Bronte’s were better though they didn’t write as many books as Austen.

The director also deserves praise for this film and even though there have been many adaptations of this novel should be proud of his work. It’s different than the rest and its a fresh film even though many have been made. I think he should do a movie for the book “Wuthering Heights” and I bet it would be very good. He probably could use the same cast and it would be great. Michael Fassbender would make the perfect Heathcliff.

I think this is a great film if you’re looking for a great story and not just a thrown together chick flick it’s not a light film and it was made for you to feel for these characters emotions as they felt them. Period films have always been my favorites and I’m proud to say this one holds up to many great ones as like Elizabeth, Shakespeare in Love and even James Ivory’s masterpiece A Room with a View.

So that is why Jane Eyre is my favorite film of 2011 so far.
