Inspirational and Comforting Bible Verses for Our Times

2 Timothy 3:16,17 says “16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work”. and Romans 15:4 says “for all the things written aforetime were written for our instruction, That through our endurance, and through the comfort from the scriptures we might have hope.” Through personal experience and the endurance of others I believe this to be true.
All verses are quoted from The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures 1984 ed unless otherwise noted.

In dealing with economic hardships. Psalm 37:25 says “A young man I used to be, I have grown old, And yet I have not seen anyone righteous left entirely, Nor his offspring looking for bread.” There have been times in my life where I was literally living on bread and water. I always found a way through these times by keeping a positive outlook and many times this bread would come from unexpected sources. And in The Sermon on the Mount Jesus reminds us that God feeds the birds and that we are worth more than them. But to “Keep our eye simple.” In fact many of the top financial advisers in the world today include simplifying as a part of your financial planning. This does not mean there is anything wrong with having money. 1 Timothy 6:10 says 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after , they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.KJV. The secret is found in verses 6-8 “6 To be sure it is a means of great gain, this godly devotion along with self sufficiency.7 For we have brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out. 8 So, having sustenance and covering, we shall be content with these things”. The secret is balance and contentment.

When dealing with health problems, or serious illness. Psalm 41:3 states ” The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.” Yes the hope from the scriptures and knowledge of past healings is faith strenghtening. One of the most moving accounts in the Bible is found at Mark 1:40-42. “40 There also came to him a leper entreating him on bended knee, saying to him: “If you just want to, you can make me clean.”41 At that he was moved with pity, and he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him: “I want to. Be made clean. 42 And immediately the leprosy vanished from him and he became clean” This account demonstrates that Jesus has the power and the will to heal us.

Many today are faced with depression. The Bible also has much comfort in this. The Psalmist David suffered much in his life. He dealt with family issues , betrayal and the inner struggle from his own sins. In Psalm 94:19 he writes ” When my disquieting thoughts became many inside of me, Your own consolations began to fondle my soul”. And Philippians 4:6-7 says “6 Do not be anxious over anthing, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God. 7 and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” Never underestimate the power of prayer.

And finally our hope for the future. Psalm 37:10-11 states ” A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.NIV. And Revelation 21:4 assures us “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”.

These are just a few of the verses that have brought great comfort to me and millions of others through the generations. Hopefully they have brought you some comfort also.
