How to Fight the Flu This Winter

Winter’s right around the corner which also means it’s just about time for flu season. Nobody enjoys getting the flu, it’s days and days spent laying in bed, sneezing, coughing, and even vomiting. Sounds terrible, right? And you should want to do everything you can to avoid getting sick this flu season. You may think that it’s impossible to not get sick during the winter but there are many things you can do to be sure you greatly reduce your chances of getting sick.

1. Flu shot.
The most important thing you can do is get a flu shot for yourself and everyone in your home. If you don’t get a flu shot, you’re just asking to get sick this winter. You can get flu shots from your doctor or just by going to Walgreens! It’s very simple.

Even if you do get a flu shot, you should still do other things to help make sure that you don’t get sick just to keep yourself and family safe.

2. Stay away from those who are sick.
If a friend or family member is sick, try to not go near them unless you are the one that has to take care of them. If you have to take care of someone who is sick, be sure you wear a doctor’s mask and gloves. This will help you not breath in any germs and you won’t be getting all the germs on your hands.

3. Wash your hands.
Wash your hands as much as you can. Every time you use the bathroom, wash your hands. It’s very important to always wash your hands, especially if you go in public a lot since so many strangers touch the doorknobs, handles, carts, etc. So, wash up!

4. Hand sanitizer.
Washing your hands is very important, but you can’t always be near a sink. Carry hand sanitizer in your purse, they make pocket size hand sanitizer bottles so you can carry it on your at all times. Keep it in your car and on your desk. You can use hand sanitizer every time you shake some ones hand or after you use a public library computer. In many stores today they have wipes near the carts so you can wipe down the area where you put your hands to push the carts, if you seem them, use one.

5. Shower daily.
Showering will wash away all of the germs you got on your body during the day. Shower at least once a day, if you have the time, shower twice. You need to use a washcloth in the shower, using your hands will just spread germs.

6. Clean up the house.
Keeping your house clean is more important than you’d think. Don’t let bacteria and germs sit around your house, clean up all the garbage and be sure you dust often.

7. Teach your family!
Be sure you teach your family all of the things they can all do to make sure they don’t get the flu. With everyone in your home working together to keep germs out of your home, the flu getting into your home doesn’t stand a chance.
