How to Draw a Bird!

Birds. No problem. When drawn stationary (as opposed to in flight), they’re one of the easiest animals to draw, no lies. Once you get into how they look when they’re flying you’re in a myriad of questions you gotta ask yourself but for right now we’re gonna keep it simple for you, ya heard? Heck yeah.

Step One!

Start out with an oval shape pointing slightly upward. Add a circle on top for the head. The farther back you place the head on the oval, the puffier the chest of the bird will be, just to keep that in mind.

Step Two!

Draw a smaller circle within the first oval, following the same shape. This will be the wing. Add a triangle on the head for the beak.

Step Three!

Add two little circles beneath the body for the tops of the legs.

Step Four!

Add a long, bending rectangle for the tail feathers. For the legs, make a zig zag line pointing to the right, then the left. Add 3 little lines for the toes. Depending on what kind of bird you’re drawing, the length of these legs will vary. For example, a pigeon has long legs than maybe a finch or a dove would.

Step Five!

Woah wait that was it!? Yeah dude, exciting. Get rid of excess lines and add some detail! Since there are a million billion species of birds or whatever, you can do whatever you want at this point. I added a little Mohawk just to be festive. MOST birds follow this same general form though. Any step here can be expanded upon to make a bird of pretty much any type.

Yo and there it is! You got yourself a bird my friend. Now be hip, go to Portland and PUT IT ON STUFF.
