How to Develop a Jump Shot

If you are a basketball player, you have probably been told or read the fundamentals of the jump shot more than a few times. Hearing the fundamentals can only go so far in helping you become a good shooter, you need to be able to impliment them into your own personal jump shot. I struggled with this for a while, and I want to spare you all the frustration That I went through.

Simply put, you need to shoot how you feel comfortable shooting, but also have the fundamentals. Keep it simple. If you have trouble shooting a jump shot, you are probably overcomplicating it. When I am in a shooting slump, I remember a few tips that get me back on track.

1. Jump Straight Up And Down
If you jump forward, back, or to the side, then you are compromising your balance, and throwing off your shot.

2. Bring Your Arm Straight Up And Hold It At A 90 Degree Angle
Start bringing the ball up and jumping at the same time. The Ball should be just to the right of your head before you release the shot. Release at the height of your jump.

3. Follow Through With Your Arm Not Your Body
I know Kobe does a sit-up in the air when he shoots, but it will be much better if you don’t. Following through with your arm will lead to better arch and consistency.

With the right mix of fundamentals and individualism, you can develop a pro jump shot! Just remember, keep it simple.
