How to Check Your HP Laptop Warranty Status

There is absolutely no reason to pay for costly computer repairs if you don’t have to. If you own an HP desktop or laptop, your computer may still be under warranty. The warranty period varies based upon different components. Think of your HP laptop warranty as a car warranty. The engine may be covered for 100,000 miles, while the coolant system may only be covered for 50,000 miles. Luckily, HP makes it incredibly easy to check your warranty status at any time. Not only can you see the status, but the full details of your warranty.

If you don’t know how long your HP warranty is, you need to check now. The more you know about your warranty, the better you can put it to use. Let’s face it. Hardware fails. While you hope it will never happen to you, if it should happen, it is nice to know you may be fully covered. Checking your HP warranty status is completely free and extremely easy.

What You Need

You need two things to check your warranty status. The first is the serial number of your computer. For HP laptops, this can be found on the sticker on the back of the laptop. It is usually preceded by SN or S/N. For desktops, the sticker can be found on the top, sides or back (most likely) of the computer tower. For all-in-one PCs, the sticker is located on the back of the monitor.

The next thing you need is the name of the country in which you purchased the computer. The warranty varies based upon where the computer is purchased. The default answer is United States, but this doesn’t mean warranties aren’t available in other countries.

If you own multiple HP computers, you are in luck. You can check multiple warranties at once. The page currently has room for 10, but you can add more computers by pressing Add More Warranties at the bottom of the form.

Check The Status

Start by browsing to the HP Warranty Check form. Enter your product serial number in the first blank text box. Choose your country from the drop down menu. Enter any additional HP laptops or desktops and press Submit. The more serial numbers you enter, the longer it takes to retrieve the information. For further reference, print out the warranty details.

Expired Warranties

If you find your HP laptop warranty has expired, you can purchase a CarePaq, which covers certain aspects of your computer. These can be purchased through HP or a licensed HP Service Provider. Unless you plan to use the warranty often, the cost of extending the warranty is usually more than it is worth.
