How Much Value is There Really in Value Menus?

I have some questions I need answered. What sounds better, a prime cut T-Bone and a slow roasted Yukon Gold Potato or a double cheese burger, fries, and a Coke from the local fast-food joint? Here is another question for you. What sounds better to your wallet, 5 dollars or 25 dollars? Personally, I will always take the steak over fast-food. It seems that more and more people are sacrificing their health and palate just to save a few bucks and time.

“Making unhealthy food that much more accessible to younger generations is as useful as loading a gun in school.”

Sure value menus are certainly cheap and easy, but fast food is already very unhealthy. Packed with preservatives, fillers and Cholesterol. You are getting far more then four ounces of meat with you order a double cheese burger. It doesn’t take much time to cook. In fact it seems that America’s lack of interest in food and Nutritional cooking is leading to increased health problems such as obesity, poor heart health, and diabetes. The fast-food industry is doing nothing positive to remedy this with two for one deals on burgers. Not only does this increase the amount you buy, but also increases the amount you ingest.

How much is really enough?

According to numerous sources across the internet, it is recommended that the average daily intake for men is around 2000-2500 calories, and 1500-2000 for women. With that being said, you can easily stay under that with cooking at home. You don’t have to sacrifice flavor when you don’t want the fat.

Let’s try something, lets say you go to your favorite burger spot and get your favorite burger deal every day at lunch for a year. Have you done the math? The results are staggering. Chances are one double cheese burger, a small fry, and a medium coke every day for a year will cost you far more then what you imagine. At 3.18 a day, it can cost an estimated 1157 dollars a year. That is double what most people pay for insurance! To make matters worse, while your wallet is busy weeping your metabolism is busy trying to burn off the extra 34,000 calories that you have ingested this year.

“Just because you can sit down, It does NOT make any restaurant a fine dining establishment and a nice meal

After a long day of work It is completely understandable to just want a rest. However if you are choosing to dine out, do yourself and your family a favor. Don’t just settle for the diner down the road, their food is probably tasty and alright once in awhile. But the odds are that the majority of the menu they offer is brought in frozen and processed. This is common, it is far cheaper to buy a box of chicken tenders then to buy whole chicken breasts and make your own. Take the time and research the local eateries in the area. When you find one that cooks from scratch and uses fresh food, give it a try one night. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised, the food will taste just as good if not better then its pre packaged brother. It may cost a little more at the time, but your body will appreciate it in the long run.
