How Far East Can You Fly Us?

As the roaming gypsy members of both of our families, my husband and I have always packed up our household and made the trek across America to visit our families over Christmas.

Nothing could have prepared us for the Christmas debacle of 2010, as we affectionately refer to it. Talk of an apocalyptic snowstorm barreling down on the east coast didn’t deter us from heading to the airport to catch our flight to Philadelphia. Once we arrived at the airport, we discovered the flight was late, and we would miss our connection. We were re-booked the next morning through Denver. Made the flight to Denver and our connection to Philadelphia was on time. Just when we thought that was too easy, the flight was cancelled, and we were stuck in Denver! Instead of turning around and going home, I asked how far east could they fly us, and the response was Akron/Canton, or Dayton, Ohio. Lucky for us, Ohio was one of our stops, so I called up my family and let them know that we would be coming a little early for Christmas!

After getting out tickets, saying goodbye to our luggage (which caught up with us 4 days later!) we left Denver twelve hours after we arrived. Ironically, if we had given up on the dream of flying there, we could have driven to Philadelphia from Tulsa in less time than we spent in airports over those two days!
