How Children and Single Parents Can Reap the Benefits of Vacations

Becoming a single parent is probably the fastest growing phase of American lifestyles. I have been there; have you?

If you have been in this position, I am sure you can relate to the feelings of helplessness and loneliness that single parents sometimes have. I never really related any of these feelings to the responsibility that I acquired when I became a single parent but to the lack of adult companionship at those times of the evenings when an intellectual conversation would be greatly appreciated.

Being a parent is one of the most fascinating, most rewarding, most irritating, most frustrating and yet the happiest time of a person’s life. It seems like you are always trying to do the best you can for your children yet still not overindulge them to allow them to become anything less than a nice, responsible, loving, caring, respectful person during their childhood and in their adult life.

I guess in trying to please yourself as well as your children, vacations are one aspect of life that you share as long as it is affordable. Do you know that most travel agencies now offer vacation tours for single parents traveling with their children? These agencies will actually arrange everything from your travel requirements to your destination pleasures as well as any tours in which you may be interested.

Due to the busy schedule of most single parents from their employment activities as well as any other personal activities that they may participate in, taking vacations with your children is a good way to reinforce one’s personal status with each other and to help bridge any gaps of communication that may fall apart during everyday life. It’s a time to fully concentrate on being together and have absolutely no interruptions; no phone calls from the office, no meetings to attend and no other personal interests you may have with a boyfriend/girlfriend. In general, usually it’s a much needed break from life for both the parent and the child/children.

If you are definitely planning a vacation, I suggest that you locate a very reputable travel agency with whom to deal. If you are planning on a vacation outside the country, it will take at least 60 days before your departure to accurately prepare for the trip. This is where your travel agent is of the most benefit. They will inform you if you need to obtain or renew your passport and they will make sure that your plans meet all of the requirements of your destination country. Personally, I would check first with the United States Post Office and see what information they have to offer as far as the rules and requirements needed. At least, this gives you an upfront idea of what is needed so you have some facts before soliciting the aid of a travel agency.

Local destinations for vacations need shorter times for preparation but you still need to plan and set up everything on a timely basis and not wait until the last minute. Being a resident of your country clearly means that you can easily and quickly accomplish any requirements needed.

Parents who do work sometimes have an advantage to those who do not. Working for a company that may be generous to their employees can be a big plus. Many companies nowadays are able to obtain vacation packages for a mere cost of what it would be otherwise. There are a lot of promotional programs that a business may be able to purchase fairly inexpensive and give it to their employees. Sometimes, these trips may be part of a ‘reward’ for an employees’ dedication to their work, for advancements they have achieved or it could be just because the employers are great family people who do the best they can for those they employ. Of course, some employers use a program like this to stimulate the employees to be more productive and aggressive with their work. Whatever the reason, it still helps the single parent with a vacation need and the ability for them as well as their children to visit other places without spending their own money.

Vacations do take planning. I once had an employer that would tell all his employees that, “A person needs to plan his work and he needs to plan his vacation to be successful in life”. I totally believe that. Happy Vacationing.
