Helpful Keyboard Shortcuts in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word, Excel, etc… there are often helpful keyboard shortcuts that one can use to cut down on the time it takes to complete your task. For example, hitting the Ctrl key and the letter ‘a’ at the same time is the keyboard shortcut that will allow you to select all of your text. If you want to bold your document or change the font, this is the easiest way to highlight and change the text. For whatever reason Microsoft Excel will fail on you just as you are about to finish your work, so arm yourself with keyboard shortcuts to beat the game. While Microsoft does have that helpful auto-save feature, you can’t count on it 100% of the time. So one quick keyboard shortcut to save your document in any Microsoft program is Ctrl + ‘s’. Click both keys at the same time and the dialog box to save will come up or the document will save over its previously determined location.

Have you ever had that experience where you know that you’ve read or written and just cannot find it? This Microsoft Word and Excel keyboard shortcut trick will help out immensely, just click Ctrl + ‘f’. This will bring up the find dialog box, just type in the word you’re looking for and off you go. In Microsoft Excel, the find function can either look at the final cell value or the input formula, so check this if you’re having a hard time. Additionally, the find function is not like Yahoo! you must type in the exact word to get Microsoft Word or Excel to find your search term.

So your boss is breathing down your neck and you want to print your document quickly? One other trick that might be of use for Microsoft Excel and Microsoft word users is Ctrl + ‘p’ which is the keyboard shortcut for the print function. This will bring up the print dialog box and is easier than navigating the typical drop down menus.

Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are powerful tools that can be used to effectively create most documents and fulfill most calculatory needs.
