‘Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows’ was My Favorite Film of 2011

2011 had some really impressive movies. The multiplex was nearly overrun by superheroes and other special effects heavy movies. While several were truly top-of-the-line, one sticks out as my favorite movie for 2011. While “Thor” was great, and “Captain America” was awesome, some films just did not quite deliver the goods. “Green Lantern” could have been much better and “Cars 2″ was proof that some ideas should just not be made into sequels.

2011 will remain the year a popular character that has sent generations of fans into various frenzies left the grid. “Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2″ was my favorite movie of the summer and so far in 2011.

The film was a great way to send off one of the best movie characters of all time, and probably one of the most well rounded characters in history. Harry, Ron, and Hermione deserve their place in movie history with the likes of Frodo, Gandalf, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and just about any other multi-movie mainstay.

“Deathly Hallows Part 2″ was the culmination of a journey a decade in the making, and everybody delivered. While just about everyone in attendance to the show knew how it was going to end, seeing a visual interpretation of the popular book was almost legendary. Tears were shed and laughs were had, all the makings of a great movie.

However, what disturbs me most is the lack of Oscar buzz generated by the film. The film was easier better than several dramas over the past few years, and the franchise deserves to be recognized just like “Lord of Rings” was several years ago. Perhaps the various directors the movies have had are keeping voters away, but “Deathly Hallows” was incredibly well done.

While an Oscar nod is probably a long-shot for the boy wizard, fantasy stories do not always get the kind of love they deserve from award shows. While the stars will move on to different projects, just like “Star Wars” actors, the will remain a part of movie history that occupied the thoughts of millions for an extended period of time.

Sure, a few films have yet to be unveiled in 2011, but for me and many other fans, the year will be remembered as the one where we said goodbye to several old friends. Just like many fans, I was sad to see it end, but look forward to the next book on the shelf and the next spool of film on the reel.
