A thin coat of snow covers a tree bare of leaves. Children playing out in the winter weather building snow forts and snowmen. Often we entertain ourselves with charming thoughts about snow but anyone who has ever walked home from school in snowy conditions or spent hours shoveling snow knows the winter delicacy doesn’t always charm. “Winter Wonderland?,” a haiku about wintertime, recognizes the not so pleasant side of snow.

Red face, numbing cold,
Snow sneaking inside my boots,
Need some hot cocoa.
