Every Valentine’s Day I Get Robbed

Every Valentine’s Day I get robbed.
This most unfortunate event happens every year.
I’m about to give up on this holiday altogether.
This Valentine’s Day I find myself in love.
I am going to give this day one more chance.

I have been hinting to my love that all girls want jewelry and flowers for Valentine’s Day.
I hope he does not buy them at a gas station.
If he does, it will be the frying pan for him.
I’m making him dinner that day so all cooking utensils will be readily available.
Only if the situation calls for it of course.

Every year prior to this has been a disaster.
Most of the time on this day I have been single or had broken up that very day.
My mother has been the one to buy me candy and gifts on Valentine’s Day.
It has been extremely loving and thoughtful on her part.
As for me, it has been quite pathetic.

Valentine’s Day during my high school years was extremely brutal.
You could buy a rose or send your love a candy-gram in class.
I hated that day.
Year after year I never received a rose or candy-gram.
I watched other girls show theirs off, and I felt like a loser.
So to make myself feel better, I secretly sent one to myself.
It only made me feel even worse.
I went home and broke into my parents’ liquor cabinet.
I grabbed the bottle of vodka, and asked if it would be my valentine.
Actually, now that I think about it, that was the best Valentine’s Day yet!

I am now thirty years old.
I have yet to receive candy or flowers from anyone besides my dear mother.
Every Valentine’s Day I get robbed.
I’m giving it one more chance because this year, I am in love.
