Dglazkov Leaks Battlefield Dev. Version

dglazkov, a redditor on the ever popular website, was able to obtain a dev copy of Battlefield 3. But not only did he obtain a dev copy of the game, he went so far as to take many screenshots and record footage of it. Now, you can find the videos almost anywhere – well, any place but YouTube, that is.

Whether this is a real leak or just a publicity stunt on the part of the publisher (EA) and/or developer (DICE) of Battlefield 3, this is good news for anyone looking forward to the new installment. Fans of Modern Warfare 3, join me as we cuddle with the trailers we’ve had for months now.

dglazkov’s videos have been taken down by YouTube, due to a copyright claim by EA, leading some to believe that the leak was legitimate (meaning, not planned by DICE or EA). But no one can doubt that the visuals aren’t up to snuff – they’re hardly wowing, considering the recent upgrades to graphics with this generation of consoles. Admittedly, this may be due to the fact that – get this – it has been announced that Battlefield 3 will not be in HD graphics.

1280Ã-704. That’s the resolution of Battlefield 3; just below 720p. They bring it down 16p by removing 8 from the top and 8 from the bottom of the screen; this leaves a border at the top and bottom because DICE has stated that stretching it to fit the frame would ruin the picture. Now, this isn’t a big deal, and many other game companies have done the same thing. Modern Warfare 2 was only around 600p. However, the major difference here is that so far it looks like the graphics – even at 100p higher – are nothing compared to other series. To add to that, Modern Warfare 3 will run at 60 FPS; Battlefield 3 is only set to run at 30 FPS, even though it isn’t running HD graphics.

So, will this leak give fans a preview of disappointing graphics, or just show them the gameplay they’re craving? We’ll have to wait until we get an official gameplay trailer that we can more closely examine.
