This year, there are quite a few couples who may not have the happiest of holidays with the many break up and divorce announcements coming out of Hollywood just before Christmas. Debra Messing and her husband of ten years, Daniel Zelman, revealed that they split earlier this year, but just decided to go public with the news.
The couple met when they were students at New York University, and married in 2000. They have a 7-year-old son, Roman.
The 43-year-old actress is best known for her role as Grace Adler on “Will & Grace,” and will star in the new NBC drama, “Smash,” premiering in February.
It seems the 2011 holiday season has been filled with splits in Tinsel Town, and Messing’s announcement comes on the heels of several big break ups.
Just last Friday, Vanessa Bryant , the wife of NBA star Kobe Bryant, announced she was filing for divorce from her husband of over a decade. He becomes one of many famous athletes to be dumped by a beautiful wife after frequent straying.
It’s really no surprise that the Bryant’s marriage didn’t survive, especially after the well publicized scandal he was involved in after an infidelity with a hotel worker in Colorado led to an accusation of rape back in 2003. He was eventually cleared of the rape charges, but not of the cheating, and tried to placate his wife with an eight-carat purple diamond ring.
After all that, he still didn’t learn his lesson. We think Vanessa should have dumped him years ago, but she was obviously trying to do the right thing considering she had just given birth to their first child , Natalia, earlier that year. They went on to become parents of their second daughter, Giana, three years later.
Another break up just after the Thanksgiving holiday, was that of Olympic skiing gold medalist Lindsey Vonn. The 27-year-old announced that she and her husband, Thomas Vonn, were divorcing after four years of marriage.
Other sad splits over the last five weeks include actress Demi Moore and her husband, “Two and a Half Men” star Ashton Kutcher, as well as several broken engagements including transgender activist Chaz Bono and Jennifer Elia, and “Dancing with the Stars” professional Karina Smirnoff and baseball pitcher Brad Penny .
