When we discussed our nations debt addiction we broke it down to simple family terms. So let’s continue this format and look at some ways to get our family on the right track.
Stop giving money you don’t have.
I know our neighbors are having credit issues as bad or worse than us. But if we are spending more than we earn we can’t afford to give money to a neighbor. What sense does it make to have a cash withdraw from our credit card so that we can be generous with a neighbor in need. Yes, we need to help our neighbors but I think we can do it without putting ourselves in a worse financial situation. I will cover some ways to help neighbors while keeping the revenue in our family tomorrow. Today we need to get some fast cash on our balance sheet without putting more credit on the card.
Let’s sell stuff on ebay!
When I need quick cash I go through my closet and garage and look for things I no long use or need and I sell them on ebay. If I can get enough money to fill my gas tank then I have lowered my monthly needs at least for a short time period. So what can we sell?
Do you know the Federal Government own 85% of Nevada?
That’s right 85% of Nevada, 50% of Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Arizona. Take a look at the amount of territory the US owns on this map . So let’s sell off that land and make some money. We can retain 5% of that land as needed for parks and military bases. We can get an immediate release from the cost of land management. No longer must we pay to maintain those roads and patrol that land for safety. So scratch that from the budget.
Let’s make more money from the sell.
So we reduce the 6.1 million acres the US owns to 2 million acres. Turn the Federal parks over to the state governments and remove that cost from the federal budget. Offer the federally owned land to the States first. Offer to sell it to them for $1,000 per acre. That would generate $4,100,000,000 overnight. But that is not good enough. So lets say we offer half to the States and half is put on ebay. You must be a US citizen to bid and we will sell them in 50 acre blocks.
Let’s make more money from our sale to citizens!
By putting 50 acre blocks on ebay then people can own a bit of the American dream and build a home or ranch. Oh, that creates jobs and more tax revenue. Because the land is up for bid people will pay more for some lots and that will create more money on the sale. When it’s sold they will pay sales tax and that will create more income for us. Finally many developers will want to buy land to build subdivisions, business and shopping malls. I can hear the cash register ringing now.
The wonderful thing is we have reduced our monthly expense of upkeep while bringing cash in to lower our debt and increased our monthly income by collecting more tax dollars without increasing the tax rate. OK, so we have helped resolve a small part of our problem and we haven’t touched anyone’s pet program. Just think of it this way. The money we created will help keep those social security checks flowing.
