Remove Malfunctioning Shell Extensions

The term ‘shell extension’ is used for the right click options that you see for every files on your computer. They are nothing but the commands to specific functions, for example, Open, Edit, Print, and so on.

Often third party programs, especially word processing/ office suit programs install their own shell extensions. If they are not working properly, Windows Explorer crashes when you just right click a file.

The solution is to remove such shell extensions. Download a shell extensions management program, called ShellExView, and install it. Disable one by one shell extensions which you think are not performing well.

Run System File Checker

Your computer crashes if the system files are corrupted, i.e. they are replaced by third party files which cause problems in the functioning of your computer. Run the SFC tool and scan for such files. Restore them to their original versions.

1. Click the Start button, and select Run option. 2. Type SFC /ScanNow command and hit ENTER key.

Note: Your Windows operating system installation disc is required to perform this procedure.

In most cases I have ever seen, bad and corrupted registry portions were causing computer crashes. Bad and corrupted registry keys include keys referring to the files which no longer exist, and so on.

Run a full registry scan using Reginout Registry Cleaner. If any errors are found, click the button Fix Now to repair your problems.
