Celebrate Lynchburg’s History on Martin Luther King Jr Day

If you live in the Lynchburg area, you have probably noticed Point of Honor, sitting high on a hill, overlooking the James River. But you might never have visited the historic old home, located at 112 Cabell Street. Point of Honor was built in 1815 for Dr. George Cabell. You will have an opportunity to visit for free on Martin Luther King Jr Day on Monday, January 16.

In addition to Point of Honor, the Lynchburg Museum, located at 901 Court Street, will also offer free admission in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day. The museum offers photographic and other exhibits that take you back in time. You will meet famous residents, see how the city once looked, and learn about the past. There’s a special exhibit called “Lynchburg At War: 1861-1865″ that will be on display through mid-June 2012.

Both museums will be open with no admission fees from 10am-4pm on Martin Luther King Jr Day. This is a great time to explore Lynchburg’s history with your family. You can learn more about the museum at the website www.lynchburgmuseum.org. You can learn more about Point of Honor at the website www.pointofhonor.org.
