Black Friday Shopping Tips

Today is “Black Friday” and we all know that shopping on “Black Friday” isn’t for the faint at heart. By using the right strategy, “Black Friday” can turn out to be a very rewarding day. Black Friday can allow you to save money and buy special items for yourself, your family and your friends that you couldn’t normally afford. So, here are some tips to make the most out of Black Friday!

1. Make a List

Santa Clause is not the only one who should make a list and check it twice. You must have a list as well. Keep in mind your total budget and use Black Friday sales to help you stick to your budget.

2. Do Your Homework

Now that you have your list, you need to do your homework. Most retailers obtain and publish Black Friday deals, often weeks before they’re officially released. Retailers have also gotten very savvy on their web sites and with social media offering specials to people who are their “friends”, “follow them” or are signed up to get their specials by e-mail. Go to retailer’s web sites, Facebook and Twitter pages and sign up to get their specials, so you get their exclusive Black Friday deals.

3. Shop On Line First

Look at your gift list and what you are planning to buy. Check to see if those stores are going to sell the items you are interested in for the sales price on line. Shopping on line can also be a good idea for gifts that you need to ship. Many stores offer free shipping over the holidays and you can ship the gift directly to the recipient. This will save you the additional cost of shipping the item.

4. Finalize Your Plan of Attack

Look at your gift list and what you want to buy. Start with the items that you can save the most money on. Create a shopping list and time line. Hit stores when they first open, get the item(s) that you need and get out quickly before the lines form so you can get to the next store when they open. On Black Friday, a savvy shopper is a focused shopper. This isn’t the day to browse!

5. Make Sure Your Ready

Eat a good breakfast and like your mom always reminded you, use the bathroom before you leave. Make sure you dress in layers, comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. Take a small cooler with snacks and drinks in the car with you. Only amateurs stop at the food court on “Black Friday”.

Black Friday can be a fun experience full of great shopping deals and tailgating parties. Since consumers can find sales at just about any time of the year, for many people, it’s the retail adventure that they don’t want to miss. Just remember to shop responsibly and have fun.

Happy shopping!
