The Collie

One of the best herding dogs for families with children is the Collie. The Collie is a people lover and is usually quite loyal to their family. They are highly intelligent and easily trained, although they can be excitable. Grooming a long coated Collie requires at least once a week brushing. All in all, Collies are highly recommended for families with children as the best herding dog to have as a pet.

The Border Collie

Because they are herd dogs, they may still have a tendency to try and round up small children, but are known to be very gentle dogs, especially if they are raised in the home with children from the time they are puppies. Border Collies need to be exercised, whether it be a long walk or a large fenced in yard, but can make excellent house pets.
